The art of
Jane Dingwall

I was born in Kent, England in 1958 and have always had a great interest in nature and art.  As a young child my love of birds and animals expressed itself mainly through the large and varied menagerie I kept and the wildlife that I encouraged to visit my  garden.  In my early teens I became a member of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.

My interest in art grew as I progressed through my school years, and was finally awarded GCE 'A' Level in Art in 1975.

Whilst living in London, I married and raised four children,  which left little time for art,  but I became a dab hand in folding nappies!   Although the brushes were put aside for a while I continued to absorb as much information about techniques and other Artists work as time would allow.

In1991 we all moved to Australia and settled on the Mornington Peninsula.  There is so much natural beauty and I was immediately struck by the vivid colours of Australian animals and plant life.

The children progressively started school, and some accompanied me to classes.  I had at last found the time for painting again!    I  was fortunate enough to start exhibiting and selling artwork through local art shows and a steady demand for  work exists, selling through exhibitions, galleries and commissions for illustrative work

Our home is situated in a peaceful bush land environment from which I draw upon much of my inspiration.  Having a close eye for detail, I strive for an intimate understanding of my subject always aspiring  to capture the intricacies of nature, building upon a foundation of good composition, aspects of light and shade and tonal ranges.  I use a variety of media, watercolour, gouache, pencil and recently have added oils to my portfolio, due to the generous help and teaching of highly successful international Artist,  Krystii Melanie.

In 2000 I illustrated for authors and horticultural botanists, Bill Molyneux and Sue Forrester, their delightful story, Emma's Journey.  It is a spiritual journey  encompassing the beauty of nature within the seasons of the High Wild Country.

I am currently  a member of the Wildlife Art Society of Australasia Inc.,  the Bird Observers Club of Australia and member of The Peninsula Art Society.
